This is us

Hello! We're sisters Melissa and Caroline.

We founded RUSTIQ with a simple but deeply felt conviction: that the clothes we dress our children in — and ourselves — should mean something. Not just in how they look, but in how they're made, who made them, and how long they last.

RUSTIQ was born from a frustration with fast fashion and a love of beautiful, natural things. We wanted to create clothing that felt unhurried. Pieces that a mother could reach for again and again, and one day pass on. That's where the name comes from — that worn-in, timeless quality that only comes from something made with real intention.

Like any honest business, we've evolved over time, and our customers have been our greatest guide. What started as a broader vision for slow, considered clothing gradually revealed its truest expression- a mother and her child, dressed in the same fabric, sharing the same moment.

Our mom and me collections have become the heart of what we do, and it feels right that they did. There's something quietly powerful about dressing in parallel with your child — a small, daily act of connection that our customers keep coming back to, and that we keep designing for.

Based in Johannesburg, we work with a small, dedicated team of skilled female makers, who handcraft every garment to order. Nothing sits in a warehouse. Nothing goes to waste. Each piece is made because someone chose it — and that matters to us.

We prioritise natural fabrics, that breathe, soften with wear, and sit gently on the earth. Our collections are designed for real life — for mothers and their children — with a considered aesthetic that values simplicity over trend.

Our made-to-order model isn't a marketing choice. It's a commitment. To our makers, to our customers, and to a way of doing business that we can feel genuinely good about.

We're grateful for every RUSTIQ customer who chooses slow over fast, and meaning over mass. You make this possible.

With love,

Melissa & Caroline
